We love it that our Byron Shire is appreciated and is included in Leunig cartoons. So, here’s a bit of shameless gossip and some homes that are HOT on our local market!
The Hemsworth Hovel
Major film actor and local lad, Chris Hemsworth, has extended his family’s holdings in Byron Bay. Mr Hemsworth and wife Elsa Pataky are building a private retreat at the end of Seven Mile Beach Road, Broken Head. Now Pataky’s half-brother Cristian Medianu, a film director who has worked with Hemsworth on Thor: Ragnarok, has bought a $1.5 million house in Suffolk Park.
Hemsworth’s Hollywood buddy Matt Damon and his family are regular visitors, as are his brothers: Hunger Games actor Liam Hemsworth with his music star wife Miley Cyrus, and Westworld’s Luke Hemsworth. Tabloid rags have attempted to label Byron as “Hollywood by the Sea” and fortunately, this has not stuck.
Chris and Liam are directors of the company that spent $4.3 million on a Suffolk Park beachfront late last year, which was mooted to become the home for their parents. The Thor star and Pataky are putting the final touches to their Broken Head mansion, after knocking down the eight-bedroom home they bought for $7 million in 2014.
Pro Surfer Owen Wright is Mystery Buyer
Professional surfer Owen Wright has emerged as the mystery buyer of a choice piece of real estate in the heart of Byron. The block of land sits just under 300 metres from Clarke’s Beach. The $5.1 million sale was the fourth highest in the Byron last year.
The surf-enthusiast moved to Lennox Head a decade ago when he was in his late teens. Sister Tyler is also on the pro-circuit and is a two-time world champion surfer. Owen nearly won a world title after two perfect 10-point rides to win an event in Fiji in 2015. Days before the final event at Pipeline Masters even in Hawaii, Wright suffered a traumatic brain injury during a warm-up session. He is married to singer Kita Alexander and the couple already has a $975,000 property in Byron purchased in 2010.
Linnaeus Estate, 7/951 Broken Head Road, Broken Head
Back in the 90s, there was a development loophole if you were able to qualify as an educational facility. Linnaeus Estate squeezed through this loophole and managed to creatively construct this complex of beachside villas. There is a small room available for those wishing to pursue educational pursuits – so there! 3 bedroom, 2 bath 1 car space on a combined 111 acres on a beautiful collation. The agent is Tony Farrell from LJ Hooker and listed for $3.95M
Emerson Road, Rosebank
Owner says SELL on this one. Agent says – Positioned atop a beautiful 30-acre site at Rosebank, a genuinely secluded, sought-after location in Byron Bay’s lush hinterland, this exceptional home – the House of Moons – is a private paradise.
It certainly is unique and different. The location is great as it’s high and private. The house could have benefited from the guidance of a qualified architect but it is large and well built. Priced to sell at just under $2M and this would be a good buy for the right buyer. Contact Ku Darroch of Real Estate of Distinction, Byron Bay.
Rocky Point Road, Lennox Head
Locals who surf would be aware of this house. You walk past it on the way to Boulders surf break. It has a truly unique location as sits on its own on this headland with perfect north aspect. Listed with Bangalow Real Estate for $6,950,000.
1D Short St, New Brighton
New Brighton still has good potential in my book. This property is a new modern house set high with plenty of verandas. 4 bedroom, 3 baths and parking for 4 cars. Listed with Adrian Howe with North Coast Lifestyle Properties.
91 Wordsworth, St Byron Bay
This large block on the way to the Byron Brewery and Arts Factory complex has good potential as a development block. Figures don’t stack up yet at the price of $1.975M but will in time as it is a duplex block. Existing 3 bed 1 bath house and shed already on the block. Ian Daniels is the agent with Byron Bay McGrath.
1/58 Centennial Cct, Byron Bay
Peak behind the facade of this industrial unit in the Byron Arts and Industry Estate and you will be surprised. You will see a modern 5 Bedroom 2 bath contemporary home. On for $1.98M and listed with Damian Smith at Ray White Byron Bay.
