We love it that our Byron Shire is appreciated by some of our favourite stars like Hemsworth, and included in Leunig cartoons. So, here’s a bit of shameless gossip and some homes that are HOT on our local market!
Major film actor and local lad, Chris Hemsworth, has extended his family’s holdings in Byron Bay. Mr Hemsworth and wife Elsa Pataky are building a private retreat at the end of Seven Mile Beach Road, Broken Head. Now Pataky’s half-brother Cristian Medianu, a film director who has worked with Hemsworth on Thor: Ragnarok, has bought a $1.5 million house in Suffolk Park.
Hemsworth’s Hollywood buddy Matt Damon and his family are regular visitors, as are his brothers: Hunger Games actor Liam Hemsworth with his music star wife Miley Cyrus, and Westworld’s Luke Hemsworth. Tabloid rags have attempted to label Byron as Hollywood by the sea and fortunately this has not stuck.
Chris and Liam are directors of the company that spent $4.3 million on a Suffolk Park beachfront late last year, which was mooted to become the home for their parents. The Thor star and Pataky are putting the final touches to their Broken Head mansion, after knocking down the eight-bedroom home they bought for $7 million in 2014.
Pro Surfer Owen Wright is mystery buyer
Professional surfer Owen Wright has emerged as the mystery buyer of a prize piece of real estate in the heart of Byron. The block of land sits just under 300 metres from Clarke’s Beach. The $5.1 million sale was the fourth highest in the Byron last year.
The surf-enthusiast moved to Lennox Head a decade ago when he was in his late teens. Sister Tyler is also on the pro-circuit and is a two-time world champion surfer. Owen nearly won a world title after two perfect 10-point rides to win an event in Fiji in 2015. Days before the final event at Pipeline Masters even in Hawaii, Wright suffered a traumatic brain injury during a warm-up session. He is married to singer Kita Alexander and the couple already have a $975,000 property in Byron purchased in 2010.

There is a small room available for those wishing to pursue educational pursuits. 3 bedroom, 2 bath 1 car space on a combined 111 acres on a beautiful collation. Agent is Tony Farrell from LJ Hooker and listed for $3.95M
Emerson Road, Rosebank
Owner says SELL on this one. Agent says – Positioned atop a beautiful 30-acre site at Rosebank, a genuinely secluded, sought-after location in Byron Bay’s lush hinterland, this exceptional home – the House of Moons – is a private paradise.
It certainly is unique and different. The location is great as its high and private. The house could have benefited from guidance of a qualified architect but it is large and well built. Priced to sell at just under $2M and this would be a good buy for the right buyer. Contact Ku Darroch of Real Estate of Distinction, Byron Bay.
