Yes that is a good idea as well. But I think the church themselves want to convert it to a number of affordable dwellings. THat is the point as Marrickville is being gentrified and they want to help keep some low cost dwellings.

They have done this successfully in East Melbourne, where I used to stay regularly, with old Church of England cathedral being converted into quite expensive apartments, while still maintaining the church facade.
