Major Road Works
Byron Bay has a history of flooding during heavy rain, which affects businesses and residents. We already experienced road and drainage repairs along Lawson Street late last year. It was contentious as it was done leading into a busy holiday period. There is more to come. The council has secured around $20 million to complete more drainage works in the CBD and the recreation grounds. The work should begin soon, in the middle of the year, and you can learn more about it here.
One good extra outcome was that Cr Jack Dods (and others) could lobby to have the road made more pedestrian-friendly – shared access with cars, bikes, and pedestrians. This aligns with the long-term master plan for Byron to eventually have more pedestrian-friendly streets. Well done, Councillors.
