The Byronian, Coopers Shoot
This 5.6 Hectare property on the ridge overlooking Suffolk Park is rumoured to listing soon. Currently owned by Deborah and Robert Wild of Evolve College, a Sydney based massage training centre, it was initially built by Tom Misner. Mr Misner is now back living in Byron after a stint in Europe. He is cashed up after selling the global educational facility SAE (School of Audio Engineering) for close to $1 billion. Music producer Misner built the SAE campus on Ewingsdale Road Byron as the HQ of many SAE branches around the world. He sold the Coopers Shoot property to the Wilds in 2014 for $7.9 million but they will be expecting a price between $20 – 22 mil this time around.
There is an interesting anecdote about this site before Misner bought it. An elaborate two-story home was built there in the 90s but was sited closer than the allowed set back from the ridge. The owner/builder owned a mill and took pride in using a range of local hardwood timbers. The owner knew he was outside the approved building envelope but intended to just pay the small fine of a few thousand dollars and move on. He moved on and never moved in. A local green activist heard about it and put a match to it one night as a protest. Ouch! That’s gotta hurt.
